Introduction & FAQs
Hey everyone!
Thank you for visiting my website and blog. For my first blog entry I’m going to keep it nice and simple and just answer the questions I’ve been receiving on social media and via email inquiries!
If you haven’t already figured it out, my name is Simone, I am a nurse injector right here in downtown Peterborough NH! I opened at the beginning of May for Xeomin wrinkle treatment and prevention. Xeomin is very similar to Botox, except it does not contain proteins, or albumin. This is beneficial for a couple reasons!
Our bodies can make antibodies in response to botulinum toxin A, but it is less likely to do so without those human proteins in the solution. This decreases the chances of developing resistance to the effects of Xeomin over time.
The molecular weight of Xeomin is less than Botox, which has been shown in studies to possibly decrease the chance of the medication migrating from the injection site. Migration is what often causes brow or lid ptosis.
Many people use the general term Botox when referring to any drug in the botulinum toxin A class as it was the original!
So, let's jump in!!
Question #1: Is Botox or Xeomin really safe? I don’t love the idea of putting toxins in my body.
It is as long as your injector is properly trained! Most of the poor outcomes are the result of either too much product (as in too many units) or poor injection site selection. I personally like to start small and add more if needed- you can do a touch up later on but you can’t take it back once you inject!!
Allergic reactions are super rare because it comes from a bacteria that naturally occurs in our bodies!
As far as utilizing a toxin, it sounds scary but it’s not! I get it, the term neurotoxin can be kind of unsettling, and I had my doubts as well prior to my training! Botulinum toxin A is produced by the clostridium botulinum bacteria which is found in soil, plants, and our intestines, but is only dangerous in large amounts and under the right conditions. For example, botulinum food poisoning can be deadly. However the amount of toxin injected under the skin and the muscles it targets are so miniscule it is very rare to have a serious reaction-actually there are no documented cases of botulism resulting from the aesthetic use of Botox when used appropriately.
Maybe in another blog entry I can go more detailed into the science if there’s interest! It is lengthy but I find it interesting!
Question #2: Will my face look frozen?
No. Botox injection techniques have dramatically improved since they started using it aesthetically in the 1990s. Let’s just say- we know better now!
I also feel this is a good lead into making sure you tell your injector exactly what you’re looking for. The initial consult is your time to tell me what you’re looking for and I can provide you recommendations to get the look you want! You want a major transformation? You got it! You’re looking for minimalist, less dramatic results over time? Sure thing. I’m here for you and you are the one who defines what beauty means to you! I want you to feel comfortable in the skin you’re in.
Question #3: Are there any longterm issues?
The biggest longterm issue is people can develop a resistance to it (yet another reason I like to start small at the lowest necessary dose). This is rare however, and now we’re actually finding better results in people that start at a younger age as it trains the muscles to relax and reduces formation of dynamic wrinkles from the start.
Question #4: Will it reverse fine lines?
This is a great question- and to answer you have to understand the mechanism of how botulinum toxin A works. Xeomin (commonly called Botox) is an intramuscular injection that relaxes the facial muscles. If those lines are caused by muscle movement, it will absolutely work. If they are what we call “static lines,” meaning that they remain even in a relaxed state, they may be caused by further damage such as sun, aging, lifestyle, etc. This doesn’t mean that they won’t improve but Xeomin likely won’t completely remove them. With consistent treatment over time and a good skincare routine you can still see a dramatic improvement however.
Question #5: Can I schedule just a consult?
If you want just a consult- schedule a 1st time Xeomin appointment and you will not be charged unless you go through with injections! The consult is typically done immediately before the procedure at my office in Peterborough! I don’t currently offer virtual consultations- but if that is something of interest to you please reach out and I will look into it!
Question #6: Do you yourself get Xeomin treatments?
I don’t, however I wish I could!! I will be completely honest with everyone, I am far from having a perfect skincare routine! I’ve put everything I’ve got into raising my daughter and getting this business up and running- half the time I collapse into bed barely brushing my teeth! I am still on the journey to finding the balance and making time for self-care, and although I have made improvements I have ways to go!
It’s hard to admit but it’s real life- and it’s also the biggest reason I want people to feel comfortable here, to enjoy their appointments, and to get the most out of their time here. I know your time is extremely valuable.
